
Certified Divorce Real Estate Expert (CDRE®) Certification Process
The CDRE® certification is not an open-enrollment designation. It is an invitation-only, highly selective program with strict eligibility standards, extensive training, and ongoing professional accountability.
This rigorous process ensures that only experienced, ethical real estate professionals are certified to handle divorce and court-involved property sales.

Eligibility & Application (Invitation Only)
Ilumni’s CDRE® program accepts only 10–15% of applicants. There is no open enrollment.
Minimum eligibility requirements include:

Active REALTOR® license for 3+ years
-
At least 45 closed transactions
-
License in good standing with no disciplinary actions
-
Two interviews (phone and video)
-
Written essay
-
Peer recommendations

Specialized Divorce Real Estate Training
Accepted candidates complete an intensive, multi-week curriculum taught by family law–adjacent professionals. The program is commonly described as 8–12 weeks of structured instruction.

Fair Market Valuation (FMV) in divorce cases

Supporting family law attorneys and courts

Testing & Evaluation
CDRE® candidates must meet strict testing standards:

Each course requires a minimum 80% passing score
-
Written final exam: 50 questions, 80% required
-
Oral final exam: administered by a family law attorney, including voir dire and mock testimony

Oath & CDRE® Code of Ethics
Upon successful completion, candidates are awarded the CDRE® designation and must formally agree to follow the Ilumni CDRE® Code of Ethics.

Key ethical standards include:

Maintain an active real estate license in good standing

Maintain active NAR membership and comply with the NAR Code of Ethics

No buyer representation on divorce listings (no dual agency)

Maintain arm’s-length relationships with clients, buyers, settlement services, and co-brokers

No personal or investment interest in divorce properties
-
No representation of either spouse in other transactions during the divorce listing
-
No referral fees or kickbacks for attorney referrals
-
Maintain strict confidentiality beyond the transaction
Maintaining the CDRE® Credential​
To remain certified, CDREs® must:

Complete 6 hours of Ilumni-approved continuing education annually
-
Maintain an active real estate license in good standing
-
Participate in ongoing case studies and national CDRE® mastermind sessions
